At the bottom of this post is a picture of our dear friend Dave Harrity. He's a poet and professor in Kentucky, and a fine one at that. He's a husband, father of two, and an incredible neighbor. In fact, he's at the top of the list for people we'd want to be neighbors with...if only he and his family would move to California.
As you'll see on our site here, Forge Sacramento trains men and women to live as missionaries in their neighborhoods. We want to take literally and seriously that oh-so-cryptic command of Jesus to "Love your neighbor." So what does that look like, what does that sound like, what does one even begin to start on obeying this simple yet tangled command of Jesus?
For the next month, we will be embarking on a series of 8 Practices of the Sent People of God, or what we are calling here on the blog- "How to Be the Neighbor Everyone Always Wanted." For some, this series will put language to the ways in which they are already living out life in the neighborhood. If so, we'd love to hear from you in the comments! For others, this next month's series will serve as a roadmap to join God in the work He's already doing around you. We, as the Forge Sacramento tribe, do not pretend to have all the answers or to be the experts in this. Rather, we desire to be life-long learners and practitioners of living a mission-shaped life. We're excited for what the next few weeks will contain here on the blog!
